
Dr. Hüdai Kara

Dr. Hüdai Kara has over 20 years of combined experience in Life Cycle Assessment, resource efficiency, low carbon sustainable technologies, critical metals research in the energy generation supply chain, carbon footprint and management, materials security, renewable energy, waste management, and research and development covering industries from metallurgy to materials, from chemicals and energy to building. He is founder and CEO of Metsims Sustainability Consulting, a pan-European bespoke sustainability consultancy.
Dr Kara is a world expert in Life Cycle Assessment and carbon management, a database developer for metals and textile, apparel and Footwear for the EU Commission and Global Construction Products LCI/EPD Databases. He is an expert in ISO 14040/44, ISO 14020-25, ISO 14067, ISO 14064, GHG Protocol and EN 15804 norm. He is the approved verifier for the International EPD System with verification of over 100 product EPDs and the ex-Chairman and current member of the Technical Committee of the International EPD System and sits on the Technical Advisory Board for European Commission for the development of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). Dr Kara is a founding member of ECO Platform.
A metallurgist and materials scientist by training, Dr Kara worked as Research Fellow on smart materials at Bath University; as Senior Scientist at Johnson Matthey Technology Centre on materials and process development and as Technical Consultant at Oakdene Hollins advising DEFRA, DfT, WRAP and many private clients on sustainability, materials security, critical materials, resource efficiency, carbon and waste management in the U.K. He is an expert Evaluator for assessing projects for EU research and development funding streams including Horizon 2020 (FP7), Eureka, Eurostars, Cornet and Eco-Innovation for the European Commission.
Author of over dozens of scientific papers with over 1300 citations and h-index of 16, Dr Kara has a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Materials Science from the University of Oxford and a graduate of Istanbul Technical University.
